Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province is now home to 32 national "little giant companies", or innovative small- and medium-sized enterprises, local media reported on Sept 7.
The number ranked third in the province, according to officials. The city is also home to 279 municipal "little giant companies".
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, "little giant companies" refer to leading small- and medium-sized enterprises that specialize in niche sectors, command a high market share, as well as boast strong innovative capacity and core technologies.
Wuxi is an important industrial city in China with a good manufacturing foundation and complete industrial supporting facilities. At present, the city has formed nine 100-billion-yuan (15.47-billion) clusters represented by the internet of things, integrated circuits, and new energy. The city is also home to various scientific research institutes.
Wuxi Unicomp Technology Co, which is headquartered in Wuxi's Xinwu district, made breakthroughs in the development of key X-ray components and radiography core technology by the end of 2020. In the first half of this year, the company's operating performance increased by more than 300 percent year-on-year to reach a record high.
Liu Jun, chairman of the company, noted that they had invested about 100 million yuan on research and development on the product.
Wuxi will release a three-year plan to emphasize efforts to nurture SMEs that specialize in one or two products, according to the local bureau.
