Wuxi's Xinwu district is a newly-developed district with an area of 220 square kilometers and a permanent population of 550,000. It consists of six sub-districts, including Wangzhuang, Shuofang, Jiangxi, Meicun, Hongshan and Xin'an.

It also has some industrial parks and development zones, such as the Wuxi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Wuxi (Taihu) International Science & Technology Park, Wuxi Airport Industrial Park and Wu Culture Expo Park.

The district started construction in 1992. After over 20 years of development, it has formed many leading industries, including photovoltaics, micro-electronics, the Internet of Things and cloud computing, and biological technology.

It has won 28 national-level titles for its brands and bases, including recognition as a national innovation park, national ecological industry demonstration zone and national pilot zone for intellectual property.
