Construction started on Wuxi Jiangnan Grand Canal Cultural Park on Nov 3.
The park will be built in Luoshe town in Wuxi's Huishan district and will span about 17.5 hectares. It will border the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in the north, start from Rongluo Road in the east, as well as reach Liangku Road in the west and Fengyang Road in the south. The park's waterfront will be about 1.5 kilometers long.
According to the planning, the park will be made up of an exhibition hall focusing on canal culture, a Canal Science Workshop, a Guochao Food Workshop, as well as the Luoshe Science and Technology Innovation Hall. All of these buildings will be built from what were originally industrial plants.
The 150-meter tall chimney inside the park has been transformed into the "light of the canal", which will provide spaces for restaurants, a viewing platform, and bars.
Officials said that the park will be an ideal place for visitors to enjoy views of the Grand Canal and Huishan district, as well as to watch various art performances at the wharf theater that will be constructed.
