Jiangyin, a county-level city of Wuxi, once again topped all counties and towns in China for basic economic competitiveness in 2021, according to a report released on Dec 6.
Research was conducted by the National County Economy and County Development Professional Research Institute and the Social Think Tank Beijing Zhongjun Research Institute, which monitored, as well as evaluated the economy and development situation of Chinese counties.
Basic economic competitiveness measures a county's comprehensive economic strengths in total quantity, average quantity, quality, speed, and vitality of the county economy, according to the report.
Jiangyin has topped this category for 19 consecutive years. Kunshan in Jiangsu province and Jiangyin were tied for first place this time.
The report said that Jiangyin is at the forefront of the country in regards to county-level modernization and high-quality development.
From January to October this year, Jiangyin's industrial added value above designated size was 100.13 billion yuan ($15.78 billion), a year-on-year increase of 9.3 percent, with an increase of 15 percentage points over the same period in 2019. The city's fixed asset investment was 76.26 billion yuan in that period, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent, while its total retail sales of consumer goods was 56.63 billion yuan, an increase of 5 percent year-on-year.
Jianyin's foreign trade also surged 20.4 percent year-on-year in the first 10 months of the year, amounting to $18.89 billion.
