A delegation from the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai visited Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province on Dec 21.

Du Xiaogang, Party secretary of Wuxi, welcomed the delegation led by Akamatsu Shuichi, consul-general of Japan in Shanghai. The two sides exchanged ideas on strengthening in-depth cooperation and enhancing their friendship.

According to Du, Wuxi is a famous "highland of Japanese capital". Over the years, both sides have forged a deep friendship and held fruitful exchanges. Japan has become Wuxi's largest trading partner and is one of the most important sources of investment for the Chinese city.

In light of the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic ties next year, Wuxi will strengthen Sino-Japan economic and trade cooperation, and promote exchanges in culture, sports, tourism, media, youth, and international education.

Du expressed hope that the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai will continue to serve as a bridge for Sino-Japan friendship. Du also invited the delegation to admire the cherry blossoms in Wuxi next spring.

Akamatsu said he is happy to take part in the annual international cherry blossom festival in Wuxi, and that he expects both sides to promote exchanges in more fields such as big health, carbon neutrality, and big data.
