The first session of the 17th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress commenced on March 16 at the Wuxi Great Hall of the People, local media outlets reported.
Lawmakers from all walks of life listened to the government work report delivered by the city's acting mayor, which focused on major government work in 2021 and the current government leadership, goals and overall requirements for the next five years, as well as main tasks to be carried out in 2022.

The government work report detailed priorities for 2022, which focused on things like steady economic development, scientific and technological innovation, consolidating and enlarging the real economy, digital reform, regional integration, stimulating the vitality of market entities, accelerating the integrated development of urban and rural areas, improving the environment and living standards, and maintaining social harmony and stability.
The session will run until March 18, during which time deputies to the congress will review the report of the municipal government on the implementation of Wuxi's national economic and social development plan in 2021 and its 2022 draft, the report on the implementation of Wuxi's 2021 budget and the 2022 draft, and the report on the basic situation of potential Wuxi social projects for 2022.
