Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province recently published a three-year action plan to become the cleanest city in the country, local media reported on April 14.
The cleanest city title refers not only to appearances, but also the living and natural environment and beautiful scenery, according to the action plan.
Wuxi will focus on the the following five aspects.
Firstly, it will seek to create a more pleasant natural environment, with air quality rating as good on more than 82 percent of days in a year and the annual concentration of PM 2.5 reaching 27 micrograms per cubic meter. It will also strive to lead the country in the harmless disposal and recycling of solid waste and implement household garbage sorting in both rural and urban areas.

Secondly, a more beautiful scenery will be built in the city. The city will strive to boost the percentage of built-up areas in the city with vegetation to 43 percent and its per capita green area to 14.9 square meters, and it will also strive to establish 100 kilometers of greenways and become a national ecological garden city.
Thirdly, the city will make efforts to clean up its appearance. By 2024, all main roads and surfaces of lakes should be thoroughly cleaned, while backstreets and residential communities should also be cleaned up.

Fourthly, efforts will be made to improve infrastructure in the city. One of fourth of public toilets in the city should achieve a first-class rating and almost all street lamps should be made functional.
Lastly, the city will seek to create a more orderly society with all public parking spaces under management and no vandalism.
