Wuxi-based China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Co Ltd has been contributing to the Belt and Road Initiative over the past 10 years by participating in the construction of major projects in countries involved in the initiative.
The new terminal of Algiers-Houari Boumediene Airport in Algeria, the construction of which the Wuxi company participated in, recently won the China Luban Award 2020-21 for Overseas Project, the highest accolade in the country's construction industry.
The Wuxi steel structure manufacturer is responsible for manufacturing all nine of the 36-meter-long wave-shaped steel structures that will be used for the roof of the terminal. They are extremely complicated to produce.
It took just 45 days to finish the layout design for the 13,000 metric tons of steel structures and 290 days to manufacture and ship them to Algeria.
The new airport, covering an area of 200,000 square meters, was put into operation in 2019 and is capable of handling 10 million passengers per year.
The Wuxi company also manufactured 60 steel structures for the new Abu Dhabi International Airport, the largest in the Middle East, and 3,787 tons of core components for Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport, one of the main airports in Southeast Asia.
