Construction on Wuxi's first international demonstration zone in the Wuxi Economic Development Zone started on May 6, local media reported.
With a planned area of 11 square kilometers, the demonstration zone contains the Shangxian River Wetland, Sino-Sweden Low-carbon Eco-Friendly City, and Wuxi South Railway Station and will include a living space, commercial space, green space, and public supporting facilities.
According to a staff member from the construction bureau of the Wuxi Economic Development Zone, construction on the first part of the demonstration zone started next to Nanwai King's College Wuxi.
It will include a shopping and art center, an international school, an international clinic, a "one-stop" foreign affairs service center, a food street, a hub for commerce organizations, a community church, and a golf park.

Wuxi has ramped up efforts to offer both better working and living environment for international talent in recent years.
In April, the city revealed its plans to two international talent communities this year and more than seven international talent communities in 2023. By 2025, more such communities will be established in the city, turning it into a hub for high-profile talent.
The international talent communities are not residential communities in the general sense, but a multifunctional public space integrating work, life and entertainment.
