Two pieces of architecture in Yixing, a county-level city administered by Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province, recently won the 2022 IES Illumination Awards, the most prestigious lighting design award in the world.
Dongpo Pavilion, one of the award-winning buildings, was built in accordance with the architectural style of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and consists of three gates to a monastery and corridors.
The illumination design uses the interaction between light and shadow to highlight the special characteristics of the Chinese-style building.
For example, the eaves, unique to Chinese-style buildings, are accentuated by the light to create a dynamic beauty.
