Zhao Jianjun, mayor of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province, met with Hussain Haider, consul general of Pakistan in Shanghai, on Aug 16 to explore further cooperation between Wuxi and Pakistan.
Zhao welcomed Haider and briefed him on Wuxi's social and economic development.
He said that China and Pakistan are good neighbors and partners. In recent years, Wuxi has seen fruitful results in investment cooperation and cultural exchanges with Pakistan as it has taken the initiative to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, the mayor added.
Zhao also said that Wuxi is developing high-end textile, new energy, as well as automobile and auto parts industries and boasts promising cooperation prospects with Pakistan.
He expressed hope that the consulate general of Pakistan in Shanghai will help strengthen cooperation between Wuxi and Pakistan in trade and culture and that Haider will support and promote the establishment of friendly relations between Wuxi and the city of Lahore in Pakistan.

Haider said that he was impressed by Wuxi's achievements in economic and social development, especially the substantial trade growth between Wuxi and Pakistan last year.
He noted that China is the largest investor and trade partner of Pakistan and he welcomes more Wuxi enterprises to establish a presence in the country.
He also pledged to root for the friendly exchanges between Wuxi and Lahore.
