The third Nan'ge Lake Crab Festival kicked off in Nan'ge Lake Wetland Park, Gaocheng town, in Yixing, a county-level city in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, on Nov 12.
The queen crab (weighing 401 g) and king crab (weighing 503 g) were selected at the festival. The farmers' market also opened on the same day, where a variety of special produce in Yixing was showcased.

During the month-long festival, competitions including short video making, running, crab cooking and handicraft-making will be held.
Located beside Gehu Lake, Gaocheng town is home to the largest crab farming area around the lake.

As of 2021, the town had nearly 600 households dedicated to farming crabs and 26,000 mu (1,733.33 hectares) of crab farming areas with an annual output of 3.25 million kilograms.

Gaocheng's river crabs are also exported to Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries.
The river crabs bred in Gaocheng feature a lightly sweet taste, tender meat, and well-stacked crab paste. The best way to cook the crab is to steam it and dress it with vinegar.
