Wuxi joins UNICEF to celebrate World Children's Day

World Children's Day, which falls on Nov 20, is a United Nations-sponsored observance. On the evening of this year's World Children's Day, Wuxi Grand Theater, Huishan Dragon Light Tower and other landmark buildings in Wuxi "went blue". The Chinese characters "世界儿童日" (World Children's Day), "汇集每束光芒 点亮儿童未来" (Inclusion, For Every Child), stood out in the dark.

In order to call on the world to pay attention to the healthy growth of children, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund has launched a global initiative to light up children's future. City landmarks "Go Blue" on the evening of World Children's Day, which celebrates the lives and health of children. The theme of this year's day is Inclusion, For Every Child, and for the first time Wuxi was invited to participate in the activity. The Foreign Affairs Office and Women's and Children's Working Committee Office of the Wuxi People's Government jointly initiated the "Light up the Future for Every Child with Infinite Love" activity. Twelve landmarks of Wuxi "went blue" in the evening, raising awareness of listening to the voices of children, caring about children's rights, and bringing child-friendly concepts into thousands of households.

Wuxi is the only city in Jiangsu province connected to the UNICEF Beijing live broadcast room. The children on the scene shared some of Wuxi's features to the world in Chinese, English as well as Wuxi dialect, and expressed their best wishes to all children, welcoming children from all over the world to visit Wuxi.

A series of activities was held to celebrate World Children's Day, including the "Children's Mayor of Jiangyin" contest, a tour for children in need, the establishment of a children's council, and a class meeting with a child-friendly theme.

On November 20, Wuxi was invited by UNICEF to join the global "Go Blue" campaign on the evening of World Children's Day. The city's major landmarks were lit up with blue lights, a symbol of caring for children, calling for the world to pay attention to their healthy growth.
