Ten projects that will be carried out in 2023 to improve the well-being of residents in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, were recently selected at the second session of the 17th Wuxi Municipal People's Congress.
The city this year plans to renovate 5.7 million square meters of old residential communities, improve public firefighting facilities in 150 such residential communities, and install 300 elevators in existing residences.
The hemodialysis center at the northern campus of the Wuxi Second People's Hospital will be put into use, while the construction of the National Trauma Regional Medical Center at the southern campus of the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University will be completed.

Wuxi is expected to place 30 automated external defibrillators in public areas, build six intelligent first aid stations, and replace 15 kilometers of old gas pipes.
The city will also improve its water supply facilities by reconstructing the water supply facilities of 20,000 households in rural areas and replacing 50 km of old water pipes.
It will establish or reconstruct 11 elderly care service centers, set up 80 dining spots for elderly residents, and transform 1,500 households with elderly people to make them more elderly-friendly.
It will also be made more convenient to travel in an eco-friendly way in Wuxi, as construction will commence on subway line six and 4,050 public charging piles for new energy vehicles will be built in 2023.
In addition, the city will establish two science museums, 12 kindergartens, 18 middle and primary schools, and 20 nursing institutions.
It will also construct or reconstruct 220 public restrooms and implement a system whereby household waste is disposed of at a fixed time and place in 210 additional residential communities.
