A group of 20 tourists from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region arrived in Wuxi, a city in East China's Jiangsu province, on Feb 26, which is the first inbound tour group since normal travel resumed between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions on Feb 6.
It is also the first tour group from Hong Kong to visit Wuxi since the city held a cultural and tourism promotional event on Feb 20 in Hong Kong to woo tourists.
The tour group visited Huishan Ancient Town, a national 5A tourist attraction, which is the highest ranking in China, as the first stop on their tour in Wuxi, and received a warm welcome from locals.
"I haven't traveled to the Chinese mainland for three years, so it's very nice to have this opportunity to come to Wuxi with my family and see the beautiful scenery in the city," said one of the tour group members surnamed Huang.
Wuxi is ramping up efforts to attract inbound tourists in the wake of China's reopening of cross-border travel, and the arrival of the group signals the revival of inbound tourism in the city.
Recently, the Wuxi government promoted its tourism market by offering 1,000 free hotel stays and 500,000 tickets to Wuxi's famous attractions for visitors from Hong Kong and Macao.
