Up-close look at 'real' heart made by Chinese surgeon
Chinese gastrointestinal surgeon Zhou Shuyang has caught public attention again as his team restored a beating heart through 3D modeling.
The initial form of this beating heart was a set of CT scans. The model is so realistic that it looks like it belongs to a real human being.
A living beating heart isn't unusual, but a full angle of the valve is difficult. Valve is the white membrane that stretches and contracts as the heart rises and falls in the animation.
The detailed depictions of the human heart and surgical methods were generally based on surgery photos, complete CT images, and specimen structure diagrams.
"We have found almost all the valuable information about the heart on the internet," said Ma Nan, Zhou's partner and a medicine major.
After graduating from Xi'an Jiaotong University, he devoted himself to this niche industry.
At present, Zhou has left his job to start a business, gathering a group of talent who specialize in both medicine and painting, like Ma.
Zhou became an online celebrity in 2017 for the super-realistic heart he drew, making him famous as the best doctor who can paint in China.
