Experts gathered in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, on March 30 to explore the development and prospects of silicon photonics technology at the first China Silicon-based Optoelectronic Industry Conference.
With the arrival of the fourth Industrial Revolution, the integrated development of the optoelectronics industry has become inevitable, noted Liu Wenqing, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and vice-chairman of the Chinese Optical Society, at the conference.

Liu added that Wuxi boasts a competitive integrated circuit industry and that the optoelectronics industry will not only help upgrade the city's electronics industry, but also provide strong support for its rapid industrial development.
With its advanced electronics industry, Wuxi has become an important part of Jiangsu's IC industry. Last year, the IC industry in Wuxi generated nearly 210 billion yuan ($30.56 billion) in output, up 15.2 percent year-on-year.
Wuxi also has a solid foundation in the optoelectronics industry and is home to a number of leading businesses in wafers, substrates, optoelectronics material, optical chips, optical communications, and sensors.
