The Liangxi River is the oldest natural river in Wuxi. It is known as the mother river of Wuxi and has nourished the city and its people for generations. "Liangxi," one of the ancient names of Wuxi, got its name from the river.
The Liangxi River links the urban water system with Taihu Lake, Lihu Lake, and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. Along the river are countless trees, bridges and pavilions, which together form a breathtaking scene of classic Jiangnan style.
The environment near the river was given a facelift following a cleanup campaign in 2004, and since then the "10-mile Liangxi Gallery", a multifunctional path for hiking, jogging and cycling, has become a favorite of local residents.
