Zhao Jianju, mayor of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province, met with Kim Young-jun, consul general of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, on April 27 to explore further exchanges and cooperation in investment, trade, and culture.
Zhao thanked the consulate general for supporting Wuxi's development and briefed him on the city's economic and social development including the development of South Korea-invested enterprises in the city.
South Korea is Wuxi's largest trading market and an important investment cooperation partner and is also home to the largest number of Wuxi's sister cities, Zhao said.
The mayor added that the city is looking forward to seizing the opportunities created by the China-South Korea Free Trade Area and RCEP with South Korea-funded companies, expecting to highlight new energy, new materials, auto parts, and the bio-pharmaceutical industry.
He expressed hope that Wuxi's sister cities in South Korea will encourage more South Korean businesses and professionals to visit and invest in Wuxi and start a business in the city.
Kim expressed his gratitude to Wuxi for its long-term concern for South Korea-invested enterprises and South Korean people.
He said that Wuxi is an important overseas investment target for South Korea and plays a vital role in trade between the two countries. He noted that Wuxi and South Korea have huge cooperation potential in semiconductors, auto parts, and new energy.
Kim also promised to promote cooperation and exchanges between Wuxi and South Korea in trade, science, culture, tourism, and environmental ecology.
