Dangkou Ancient Town is a typical Jiangnan-style water town boasting winding streams, elegant bridges, and tranquil scenery. It is famous for its piety culture passed down from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220).
The ancient town is now home to various restaurants, coffee shops, and dessert shops. Many cultural venues were also built inside the ancient town, including Huitong Hall, Yizhuang Manor of the Hua family, and the Hua Wujun Cartoon Gallery.
Built some 500 years ago, Huitong Hall served as the study and printing house for Hua Sui, who invented the first movable metal printing technique during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Yizhuang Manor of the Hua family is one of the largest, oldest and best preserved Yizhuang estates, which were built by big families for charitable purposes in ancient China, in the Jiangnan region.
Furthermore, a must-try dish in Dangkou Ancient Town is zouyourou, also known as fried boiled pork. It is gold in color but not greasy, and has a crispy texture. Paired with some tea, it is a great place for tourists to relax and unwind while taking in the town's peaceful atmosphere.
