Gorgon fruits, a seasonal food favored by Jiangnan natives, have already hit the market in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.
Gorgon fruit is also called chicken head-shaped rice as the shell enveloping the fruit looks like a chicken head before it's cracked.

Harvesting gorgon fruits is dangerous due to the thorns on their leaves, so gorgon fruit harvesters are usually seen fully armed to work in the paddy fields.

Reputed to be "ginseng in water", gorgon fruits are good for people in poor health. The easiest and most popular way to cook the food is to boil them and then mix them with sugar or candied sweet-scented osmanthus. They can also be stir fried with almonds, shrimp meat, and crab meat.
