On August 9, a delegation from Wuxi New District, or Xinwu district, in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province met with more than 20 UK representatives in London to foster friendships and discuss mutual development prospects.
The UK participants were from various governmental bodies, associations, research institutes, incubators, and corporations, including the international trade and investment promotion agency London & Partners, the China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK), Barts Cancer Institute at Queen Mary University of London, AstraZeneca, and PwC.
Cui Rongguo, Party secretary of Xinwu district, said the WND regards UK enterprises as reliable and essential trade and investment partners, and that the district will continue providing a premium environment, pragmatic policies, and comprehensive services to facilitate the growth of UK enterprises in China.
Cui added that he anticipates more business and investment in Wuxi from established old friends in the UK.
Zhu Lili, vice-president of AstraZeneca China and head of Digital and Business Innovation as well as Business Strategy and Operational Excellence, lauded WND for its technological prowess and business environment, as it offers companies a solid foundation for local development.
AstraZeneca, which has been operating in WND for 30 years with cumulative investments exceeding $1 billion, has always been optimistic about the investment environment and development opportunities in the district and will continue investing locally and accelerating innovation, Zhu added.
Wu Lin, secretary-general of the CCCUK, emphasized the organization's commitment to facilitating bilateral investments and trade between China and the UK and expressed hope that Wuxi and the UK can identify more opportunities for cooperation.
