Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province recently rolled out an action plan to start a new round of Taihu Lake treatment from 2023 to 2025.
Taihu Lake, administered by Jiangsu, is the third largest freshwater lake in China. With a surface area of about 2,338 square kilometers, it stretches across Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

The plan states that the water quality of the lake's northern area is expected to reach Class III in the country's five-tier water quality system by 2025 and the ecological system along the lake will be further improved.
To achieve the target, the plan specifies measures to reduce the concentration of the main pollutants in the lake year by year. They include stopping polluting by industrial enterprises, treating drain outlets, and preventing pollution from agriculture.

In addition, dredging sediment is crucial to reducing Taihu Lake's endogenous pollution. By 2030, at least 34.56 million square meters of sediment, including 3.5 million sq m this year, will have been removed from the lake.
By 2025, Wuxi is expected to have at least 107,500 hectares of wetlands, more than 4,000 mu (266.67 ha) of which are restored, and another provincial-level wetland park.
