The four-day World Internet of Things Exposition, which will wrap up on Monday in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, is aimed at creating an immersive environment of digital experiences for attendees, organizers said.

Multiple themed routes of digital experiences centering on the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Centre and based on 10 digital scenarios selected from niche segments related to industrial development and social governance are the major attraction, along with a series of cutting-edge technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality and artificial intelligence.

Starting on Nov 13, 2009, when the State Council approved Wuxi's application to build a national sensing network innovation demonstration zone, the city's IoT has taken off with great momentum. In 2010, Wuxi was identified as one of first batch of five pilot cities for cloud computing innovation and development by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and in 2013 the city's intelligent sensing system was recognized as an innovative industrial cluster by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

In 2017, the national intelligent and comprehensive transportation testing base was located in Wuxi, jointly built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security and the Jiangsu provincial government. The following year the city launched the world's first major project of internet of vehicles: the C-V2X city-level demonstration and application project.

In 2021, Wuxi's IoT cluster was listed among the first batch of national advanced manufacturing clusters, and it has been given 28 national "pilot" and "demonstration" designations.

At this year's IoT expo, digital application scenarios include the management of intelligent public security, which aims to display the innovative achievements of intelligent traffic management and related equipment through the combination of videos, demonstration, animation, on-site explanation and interactive activities. The exhibition hall for these scenarios is divided into five zones, including digital traffic management, digital traffic facilities, digital traffic equipment and digital life services.

The internet of vehicles in regard to regional traffic optimization and urban public services is another scenario that will be demonstrated at the expo. Wuxi Xidong New City has achieved full coverage of IoV infrastructure in the business district, creating complex road scenes such as tunnels and viaducts to realize the holographic transformation of key intersections.

The district has also formed a complete IoV solution, and provides information services related to various elements like traffic flow, lights and accidents. Moreover, autonomous driving vehicles have been utilized between subway stations and residential communities, and commercial operations such as unmanned sanitation cars have been carried out on the district's 1.16 million square meters of roads.

IoT also explores agriculture with a scenario to help with new business forms. The unmanned farm of Xishan agricultural park combines such IoT technologies as Beidou high-precision positioning and intelligent control with modern agricultural technologies pertaining to high-end agricultural equipment, high-yield rice and wheat varieties and precise cultivation skills. It aims to form a complete rice and wheat planting system based on efficiency, high yields and unmanned operation, and to promote the use of digital agriculture and demonstrate the industry's technical development.

With fruitful results and remarkable progress in the IoT sector, Wuxi has become an important magnet for related companies at home and abroad to locate projects.

The city plans to improve its business environment and complete the industry chains by utilizing the IoT expo to attract more international companies to explore Wuxi's market potential and pursue mutual benefits, local officials said.
