In 1996, UNICEF and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme put forward the concept of a child-friendly city, suggesting the inclusion of children's fundamental demands into city planning to offer them more suitable living environments.
As early as 2004, UNICEF officials visited the Shuixiu Experimental Golden Jiangnan Kindergarten and affirmed Shuixiu's concept of a big future growing from small footprints.

Over the years, Shuixiu kindergarten has maintained close and open communications with local communities and households, helping parents master the latest parenting concepts.
For 12 consecutive years since 2010 Shuixiu has undertaken the citywide parent-child experiencing activity. The kindergarten has now emerged as a representative of Wuxi's child-friendly spaces.
