Professor Jin Zhengyu, aged 62, who is working in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on Nov 22.
Jin is a professor at the School of Food Science and Technology of Jiangnan University and a domestically renowned scientist who was a deputy to the 12th National People's Congress.

Professor Jin has been dedicated to researching and teaching the deep processing of starch for more than 30 years and has made remarkable achievements in scientific research, talent cultivation, social services, and international exchanges.
With his team, Jin has systematically studied the fine structure and transformation rule of starch and proposed new theories and methods on the regulation of starch crystallization function. Jin has also promoted the upgrading of extrusion processing and production equipment for starch-based food.

Jin's classes are popular among students due to his lively and engaging style, which helped him secure the honor of National Outstanding Teacher.
CAE this year elected 74 academicians, bringing the total number to 978. Among the newly elected academicians, the youngest is aged 45, the eldest is 65, and there are five females.
