Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province made the list of the happiest cities in China in 2023 at the Happy Cities of China Forum 2023, which took place in Chengdu on Nov 24.
It is the fourth time that the city has secured the title.
The city, located next to the celebrated Taihu Lake in southeast Jiangsu, won the title based on local residents' satisfaction with education, healthcare, public safety, the natural environment, transportation, employment, livelihoods, and income.

Hosted by Oriental Outlook magazine and the Liaowang Institute of Xinhua News Agency, 220 cities were ranked on the above indicators.
In recent years, Wuxi has been working to promote the high-quality development of its economy and society, strengthen environmental protection and attract more talent.

In the first three quarters of this year, the city's GDP expanded by 5.8 percent year-on-year to more than 1.1 trillion yuan ($154.27 billion). The number of companies based in Wuxi included in the Top 500 lists of Chinese companies and private companies ranked first in Jiangsu province this year.
Blue skies and clear water are also a testament to local residents' happiness. In the first nine months of this year, the improvement of PM 2.5 concentration and days with good air in Wuxi ranked first in Jiangsu. In the first half of this year, the water quality of Taihu Lake, the country's third-largest freshwater lake, in the city reached the best level in the past 15 years.
