The Chinese Orchestra of Wuxi staged a folk-music-themed New Year concert in the Wuxi Grand Theater, Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, on Dec 25.

Directed by Sun Peng, the orchestra's chief conductor, the concert was presented by erhu player Deng Jiadong, pipa player Yu Yuanchun and suona player Nu Jiandang, among others.

Xiju Opera players Wang Ziyu and Li Mengheng, instrumentalists from Xinjiang Art Theater, and members of the Wuxi Youth Chinese Orchestra, as well as local elementary school students were also invited to show their talents.
Unveiled with a percussion concerto, the concert ushered its audience into a palace feast of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) with a pipa concerto and unfolded a picturesque Jiangnan landscape with the ethnic orchestral composition A Dream of Splendor in Jiangnan.

Instrumentalists from Wuxi and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region played Silk Road while erhu player Deng and students of the city performed the song My Motherland, bringing the concert to its climax.
