Wuxi, situated in East China's Jiangsu province, is aspiring to establish itself as a consumption brand – a city of delicacies and a paradise of shoppers, as announced during a launch ceremony held on Dec 28.
To realize this ambitious goal, local authorities unveiled a three-year action plan (2024-26) on the same day. The plan taps the city's history and culture and promotes integration between cultural, tourism, and sports industries.

Over the next three years, Wuxi aims to develop high-quality and convenient community-based commercial circles and attract renowned brands from both domestic and international markets. The city also plans to create night economy-centered commercial blocks, expand the influence of Wuxi dishes, and establish a secure and welcoming environment for shoppers.
The launch ceremony also marked the start of the winter session of the 2023 Taihu Shopping Festival. This event will feature more than 100 consumption promotion activities throughout the city, showcase Wuxi's special dishes on China Central Television programs, and unveil the 2024 Black Pearl Restaurant Guide – the Chinese equivalent of the Michelin Guide.
