The 4th Canal Cities Model United Nations Conference took place in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on July 12.

During the three-day event, nearly 200 students from around the world gathered to discuss global issues such as ensuring a sustainable future for people with disabilities, transforming cities to achieve a better urban life, and protecting refugee children.

Giordano Lorefice, founder of United Network Europe – an official UN organization, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, saying that he expects to cultivate the international vision and cooperation ability of youths around the world to meet global challenges by collaboration with the Canal Cities MUN Conference.

Adriani Wahjanto, deputy representative of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in China, made a video speech, noting that she was glad to know that the conference continued participating in the Model UN Refugee Challenge this year and that she expects youths to contribute more to world peace and development.

Stacy Lyon, director of the Chinese-English bilingual immersion project in Utah, the United States, said that Utah has always been dedicated to promoting immersive Chinese teaching, a great contributor to the spread of Chinese language and culture in the US.

Lyon added that she was delighted to bring nearly 20 teachers and students from Utah to attend the conference and help them learn about China and fall in love with the country.

Wuxi is a city with a rich history, developed economy, outstanding culture, convenient transportation, and beautiful scenery. The local government is committed to facilitating exchanges between global youths through the conference and looks forward to seeing more talents to chase their dreams in Wuxi, according to Qin Yongxin, vice-mayor of Wuxi.
