Located at the geometric center of the Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi Economic Development District, or WEDD, is the "important core" of Wuxi's "one city, two cores" layout.
WEDD is the administrative center of Wuxi and also the core area for the construction of the Taihu Bay Science and Technology Innovation Belt as well as the core area of the Yangtze River Delta-Greater Bay Area (Wuxi) Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Integration Zone. It also serves as a strategic support for Wuxi in its efforts to expand its urban space, optimize its urban layout, shape its urban characteristics, and enhance its urban energy levels.
WEDD is a provincial-level development zone established in 2019. It has been entrusted to manage Taihu and Huazhuang sub-districts and one municipal State-owned enterprise (Taihu New City Development Group), overseeing 42 communities with a permanent resident population of 327,500.
Since its establishment, WEDD has closely focused on "coexistence of ecology and industry, integration of science and technology with humanities", and has spared no effort in becoming an "ecological and environmental protection demonstration zone, leading area for scientific and technological innovation, modern industrial leading zone, and high-end talent gathering area".
