The GDP of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province is projected to total 1.62 trillion yuan ($221 billion) for 2024, up 5.8 percent year-on-year, said mayor Zhao Jianjun on Jan 11.
In addition, Wuxi's general public budget revenue amounted to 121.01 billion yuan, and its foreign trade reached a historic high in the past year. The city's fixed asset investment, utilization of foreign capital, and other indicators showed leading growth rates in other southern Jiangsu cities in 2024.
The number of high-tech enterprises in Wuxi made a breakthrough to 7,300, and that of its global "lighthouse factories" increased to four in 2024. The passenger volume at Wuxi Shoufang Airport exceeded 10 million for the first time and it has been approved as a 240-hour transit visa-free port in the same year. The city also created an additional 143,000 jobs last year.
The mayor also outlined the economic and social development for 2025. The city's GDP growth rate is set at over 5 percent, and 130,000 jobs are expected to be created. The per capita disposable income of residents is synchronized with economic growth.
