Wuxi, situated in East China, is often called the Pearl of Taihu Lake and is known as the cradle of the 3,000-year-old Wu culture. Before visiting, I had heard these descriptions but didn't fully understand them. At the end of August 2025, I finally got the chance to see Wuxi myself, and the experience exceeded all expectations.

I traveled to Wuxi for business reasons. As a Key Account Manager at BFG Feinguss GmbH, my goal was to visit partners, understand local production, and strengthen cooperation. But from the very first day, I realized that Wuxi is more than just a business city. It is a place where culture, tradition, innovation, and modern life come together.

Business and first impressions

Professionally, I was impressed by the advanced factories and the level of precision and efficiency I saw in local production. The people I met showed dedication and professionalism, and it became clear why Wuxi plays such an important role in China's industrial development.

But outside of meetings and plant visits, the city itself captured my attention. Wuxi has beautiful landscapes, comfortable living conditions, and a very open atmosphere. The combination of modern skyscrapers with ancient canals and temples makes it truly unique.

Exploring history and culture

Although I was busy with work, I decided to take some time to explore Wuxi. One of the highlights was a boat tour along Nanchang Street, where the view of the riverside houses and daily life gave me a new perspective on the city. We also stopped at the former residence of Zhu Dachun, a place full of history that felt like stepping back in time.

I also visited the Wuxi Museum, which gave me a deeper understanding of the city's long history, and the Jichang Garden, a peaceful classical garden reflecting the elegance of Jiangnan culture. Walking among ponds and pavilions, I realized why Wuxi is often praised for its cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Daily life in Wuxi

One of the things that impressed me most was how modern and convenient daily life in Wuxi is. At first, I thought it would be difficult to navigate a new city, but I quickly adapted. With apps like WeChat and Alipay, I could pay everywhere, order food, or even visit attractions. For transportation, I used the Didi app to call taxis, which worked perfectly.

I also experienced the high-speed train from Wuxi to Shanghai. In less than an hour, you can reach one of the world's largest cities, and the process is quick, easy, and comfortable. This level of infrastructure makes Wuxi not only a great place to live but also an excellent base for business and travel.

Markets, food, and people

Exploring local markets was another highlight. The food was full of flavors I had never tried before, and the lively atmosphere made every visit memorable. But more than the food itself, it was the people who left a lasting impression on me. Wherever I went, I was greeted with friendliness and smiles. That human warmth made me feel welcome, even though it was my very first time in China.

A city that stays with you

Looking back, Wuxi left me with a lasting positive impression. Professionally, I gained valuable insights and met great partners. Personally, I discovered a city full of history, culture, and kindness.

Wuxi is not only the Pearl of Taihu Lake, but also a city where tradition and innovation live side by side, where life is convenient and modern, and where visitors feel like friends.

It was my first time in Wuxi, but certainly not my last.
