Containers filled with silica departed from the Wuxi West Station Logistics Park on Oct 10, heading to Sihanoukville Port in Cambodia via Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port, where they will be shipped directly by ocean freighter.
This marks the second rail-sea intermodal "Double Fast" train route from Wuxi West Station, following the "Wuxi West—Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port—Guayaquil Port" route. It signifies a further strengthening of Wuxi's international logistics network to ASEAN.
"Double Fast" refers to the rapid turnover of goods in both land and sea transport stages, jointly creating a fast logistics channel characterized by "unblocked land transport and direct sea transport".
The new route ends at Sihanoukville Port, a key hub in ASEAN and a vital logistics link among Cambodia, Laos, and eastern Thailand. "Compared to traditional routes, this 'Double Fast' service can shorten transportation time by two to three days and lower logistics costs by 10 percent," said a relevant official from Wuxi International Freight Train Co.
In recent years, Wuxi's rail-sea intermodal trains have served as dependable support for local foreign trade enterprises to navigate challenges. Statistics show that between January and September this year, Wuxi West Station's rail-sea intermodal trains operated 306 times, transporting 21,000 twenty-foot equivalent units. This marks a 115 percent year-on-year growth, with a total cargo value reaching 6 billion yuan ($841.66 million).
Wuxi's rail-sea intermodal transport now fully covers international logistics channels, connecting over 70 countries across Asia, America, and Europe. It also supports more than 300 manufacturing enterprises, covering various industrial clusters, including high-end equipment, new energy, and automotive and auto parts.
