Wuxi sauced spare ribs are the most iconic traditional dish of Wuxi, recognized as one of the top three Wuxi specialties alongside Huishan clay figurines and water-fried gluten puffs.
How it tastes?
Its main flavor comes from a rich, red-cooked sauce with a touch of sweetness. The final dish has an enticing reddish-brown glaze, shining with oil and fragrance. Tasting it, the ribs strike a perfect balance—tender bones, meat so soft it almost melts, yet still holding their shape.
Culinary symbol
Wuxi sauced spare ribs are more than just a dish; they are a cultural and culinary symbol of the city. In 1982, the Central Studio of News Reels Production filmed its preparation, contributing to its fame both domestically and internationally. Today, it is a popular feature at banquets, a must-try for visitors, and a treasured gift for overseas Chinese and international friends. It remains one of the most prominent highlights of Wuxi's culinary heritage.
