The China Silk Industry Museum, situated in the historic Qingming Bridge Scenic Area, once known for its high concentration of silk factories, occupies five Western-style buildings from the Republic of China era (1911-1949).
This is a comprehensive cultural exhibition center that combines a silk museum, displays of Wuxi's modern industrial history, traditional art workshops, silk handicraft sales, and a teahouse with performances. It thoroughly highlights the impressive development of Wuxi's silk industry and its significance throughout China.
The museum features five exhibition areas: the Kingdom of Silk, Centennial Glory, Silk Cocoon Weaving, Printing and Dyeing, and Performance and Sales.
The exhibition space is divided into four sections: the Preface Hall, emphasizing China's silk industry history and Wuxi's role as the Silk Capital; the Silk Production Hall, covering the rise and fall of Wuxi's silk industry; the Silk Weaving, Dyeing, and Knitting Hall, highlighting silk weaving techniques and products; and the Treasure Hall, exhibiting valuable silk artifacts.
