Jiang Feng, mayor of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, met with Jenny Hill, chair of the Chattanooga City Council, and her delegation during their visit to Wuxi on Oct 22, discussing deepening sister city cooperation.
Jiang welcomed the Chattanooga delegation and summarized Wuxi's economic and social development. He highlighted that since the sister city relationship was formed in 1982, the two cities have participated in meaningful and practical exchanges, building a strong and reliable partnership.
He expressed hope that, through the sister city framework, both cities would keep exploring cooperation opportunities in fields like advanced manufacturing and technological innovation. He also highlighted the chance to leverage Wuxi's development as a Music City to foster stronger exchanges in music, trade, tourism, and culture, aiming to elevate the sister city relationship.
Jenny Hill expressed her gratitude for Wuxi's warm welcome. She said that, similar to Wuxi, Chattanooga has a strong industrial base, picturesque landscapes, and thriving hotel, tourism, and logistics industries, making it an appealing place to live and work. She also emphasized the significant potential for future cooperation between the two cities.
She underscored the deep friendship with Wuxi that has flourished for over 40 years and expressed enthusiasm for using this visit as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration across various fields. Hill emphasized the importance of promoting mutual visits and interactions to ensure that their partnership benefits people of both cities more effectively.
Chattanooga is Wuxi's first sister city in North America and the second worldwide. Since 1982, the cities have frequently exchanged trade and academic delegations, hosted photography and painting exhibitions, and engaged in successful exchanges in trade, education, music, and the arts. These efforts have consistently deepened the connections between China and the United States.
