The international academic institution ScholarGPS has released its 2025 lists of the top 0.05 percent of scientists globally, with three teachers from Jiangnan University in Wuxi included in the Lifetime List and 19 others earning a spot on the Prior 5 Years List.
ScholarGPS compiles data on over 30 million scholars globally, utilizing a comprehensive database of papers, patents, and books. By employing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, data mining, and machine learning, it evaluates scholars based on their research achievements, influence, and the quality of the papers they have published.
The rankings are categorized into the Highly Ranked Scholar - Lifetime and Highly Ranked Scholar - Prior 5 Years. Across the Chinese mainland, 310 scholars have been named to the former and 1,377 featured in the latter.
In addition to this accolade, the latest data from the Essential Science Indicators as of Jan 8 highlights another significant achievement JNU can be proud of. Its Biology and Biochemistry discipline now ranks within the top 10 percent of institutions worldwide in the ESI global rankings for this field, marking a new breakthrough in research quality, academic influence, and international competitiveness for the university. Currently, the university boasts 12 disciplines ranked in the top 1 percent globally according to ESI.
The ESI is widely recognized as a key indicator of the academic standing and international influence of universities and research institutions. It serves as an important benchmark for assessing the developmental strength of academic disciplines. Disciplines ranked in the top 1 percent globally by ESI are considered to be among the high-level international fields, while those in the top 0.1 percent are acknowledged as achieving top-tier international excellence.
