Qian Lingxi, (1916 - ), was born in Hongsheng Town of Wuxi. He is an expert in engineering mechanics and a professor of the Dalian University of Technology. He achieved remarkable results in steel structure, suspension bridge, residual energy theory and structural limit. He is the 1st one in China that published the residual energy theory. He participated in the design of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, led the study on carrying capacity of submarine shell and advocated the computational structural mechanics and optimal design of engineering structure, which has been applied in various fields. In 1955, he was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
