- About Wuxi
Wuxi Sunan International Airport was built since 1995 and put into operation on February 18, in 2004. The new airport, in the 4D level and meeting the full load take-off and landing of Boeing 757 and aircrafts under the level, was started to use on September 28, in 2007. It is available for the take-off and landing of Boeing 747 after its runway was thickened in 2009.
The airport has introduced 7 airlines, including Shenzhen Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, China United Airlines, Air China, Sichuan Airlines and Shenzhen Donghai Airlines, and opened 13 domestic and international lines as well as regional routes, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Macao, and Osaka. It has over 60 flights per day averagely, and average seat kilometer utilization surpasses 70%. Besides, the airport also introduces cargo aircrafts to operate freight transport business.
Businesses of the airport are developed speedily under the guidance of Wuxi Municipal CPC Committee and the government. The growth rates of main indexes, such as annual passenger throughout and cargo throughout, respectively ranking in 39th and 27th position among all civil airports, keep in a leading position in the country. In 2009, the airport saw a passenger throughput of 2.2179 million passengers, and cargo throughput of 47,000 tons.
