On March 12, Wuxi Customs Office in Xinwu District was inaugurated. It is reported that the newly established office will undertake the customs business of the Free Trade Zone of Wuxi High-tech Zone, the supervision of import and export industrial products and packaging within the jurisdiction of Wuxi Customs, and the on-site supervision of import and export goods except Wuxi airport. Deputy Mayor Lu Zhijian attended the unveiling ceremony.
Xinwu District plays an important role in the development of Wuxi's foreign trade. In 2018, the total import and export volume of Xinwu District exceeded 50 billion us dollars, accounting for 54.4 percent of the total import and export volume of the whole city, up 17.4 percent year-on-year. The General Administration of Customs approving the establishment of Wuxi Customs Office in Xinwu District will inject new vitality into the open economy of Xinwu District.
