In June, 2000, Wuxi took the lead in setting up a volunteer association among prefecture-level cities nationwide. On June 23, the Wuxi Volunteer Federation held the third member congress to gather volunteers wearing red vests in all parts of Wuxi.

 

In June, the Volunteer Service Plaza of Learning from Lei Feng (a soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army serving the people wholeheartedly) in Nanchan Temple reopened after suspension for several months due to COVID-19 pandemic. It was the 8th year since the monthly volunteer service market was set up. Nowadays, it has become a business card of Wuxi as a city with “big love”. In fact, the volunteers have never been far away. During the pandemic period, volunteers, volunteer service organizations and volunteer service workers carried out volunteer service activities in the neighbourhood according to the demand of the CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee and the Wuxi Municipal People’s Government. More than 50,000 volunteers were standby every day at the front line of pandemic prevention and control.

 

Nowadays, there are 37 registered volunteers among every 100 permanent residents in Wuxi. They interpreted the spirit of volunteer service of "dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress" with actions and show the city’s background of social etiquette and civility with "goodness" and "love". According to statistics, Wuxi has 15 national volunteer service models, ranking first in Jiangsu Province.

 

Over the past 20 years, Wuxi’s volunteer service has always led the social etiquette and civility. Now, 1.63 million people in red vest gathered to develop new positions online and offline and build a city with “big love” with more professional services and more shining brands.
