Shopping malls, commercial complexes, as well as featured streets and areas integrating retail, catering, leisure and entertainment were the main drivers for the city's consumption growth during the holiday. According to related person in charge of the office of operation of the Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, during the Spring Festival, driven by the "Love Wuxi" consumption promotion season 2.0, many merchants launched festival celebration, store celebration and other preferential promotions to boost the consumption in the whole city. The total sales of 13 key shopping malls hit 512 million yuan during the 7-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 98.2% than that in 2019.
In addition, Liangxi District launched an online Lunar New Year's Shopping Festival together with shopping malls, supermarkets and specialized markets such as Wuxi Commercial Mansion Grand Orient Co., Ltd., RT-Mart and Easyhome, which gained popularity among consumers by online sale from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. every day.
During the Spring Festival, many citizens chose to dine out. According to related person in charge of the office of operation of the Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Wuxi's 33 key catering enterprises reported a total business volume of 116 million yuan during the 7-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 2.7% than that in 2019. Furthermore, the volumes of business of the seafood market and the pork market of Tianpeng Group increased by 111% and 208.6% than those in 2019. The trading volume and volume of business of fruits of Wuxi Chaoyang Agricultural Product Market reached 13,731 tons and 127.4 million yuan during the 7-day holiday, increasing by 81.1% and 69.6% respectively.
