Wuxi has 5 districts including Xishan District, Huishan District, Binhu District, Liangxi District and Xinwu District, the New District Management Committee and 2 county-level cities of Jiangyin and Yixing. There were 30 towns and 51 residential streets, with subsidiary units of 524 village committees, 601 community neighborhood communities and 115 village (residence) committees (syncretic).
Xishan District, a municipal district of Wuxi, Jiangsu, is located in the northeast part of the urban area, has area of 399.11 square kilometers and has permanent resident population of 455,279.
In December, 2000, the State Council replied to repeal Xishan City and establish Xishan District, Wuxi. In March, 2001, Xishan District finished institution setting of the newly-established district and held the listing ceremony on May 18, 2001. The Xishan District People’s Government is located in No. 1, Xizhou Middle Road, Dongting Residential Street at present. The whole district governs the national-level Xishan District Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Wuxi Xidong New City Business District, 4 towns including Yangjian Town, Ehu Town, Xibei Town and Donggang Town and 5 residential streets including Dongting Residential Street, Anzhen Residential Street, Dongbeitang Residential Street, Yunlin Residential Street and Houqiao Residential Street, counting up to 47 town communities and 75 rural communities (administrative villages).
Huishan District, a municipal district of Wuxi, Jiangsu, is located in the northwest part of the urban area, has area of 325.12 square kilometers and has permanent resident population of 481,801.
In December, 2000, the State Council replied to repeal Xishan City and establish Huishan District, Wuxi. Huishan District was officially listed and established in February, 2001. The Huishan District People's Government is located in No. 8, Wenhui Road, Huishan New City, Yanqiao Residential Street at present. The whole district governs 1 provincial-level Wuxi Huishan District Economic Development Zone, 5 residential streets including Yanqiao Residential Street, Chang'an Residential Street, Qianqiao Residential Street, Qianzhou Residential Street and Yuqi Residential Street and 2 towns including Luoshe Town and Yangshan Town, counting up to 60 town communities and 29 rural communities.
Binhu District, a municipal district of Wuxi, Jiangsu, is located in the southwest part of the urban area, has area of 628.15 square kilometers, and has permanent resident population of 512,747.
In February, 2001, there was part adjustment of administrative division in Wuxi. Mashan District was repealed, and the original administrative region of Mashan District and 7 towns involving Fangqian Town, Meicun Town, Xin'an Town, Huazhuang Town, Dongjiang Town, Xuelang Town and Nanquan Town of the originally county-level Xishan District were included into the outskirts of Wuxi, renamed as Binhu District, Wuxi. In May, 2001, adjustment work was basically finished. At present, the Binhu District People’s Government is located in No. 500, Jincheng West Road in Lihu Residential Street. By the end of 2014, the whole district governs Hudai Town, Mashan Residential Street, Huazhuang Residential Street, Xuelang Residential Street, Liyuan Residential Street, Taihu Residential Street, Helie Residential Street, Rongxiang Residential Street, and Lihu Residential Street, counting up to 105 community neighborhood committees and 7 social neighborhood committees integrating villages and residential quarters. Binhu District has 1 national-level tourist holiday zone, 1 national-level industrial design park, 1 national-level digital film industrial park and 1 national-level sensor network innovation demonstration zone and 4 provincial-level development zones involving Wuxi Landscape City, Liyuan Economic Development Zone, Wuxi Economic Development Zone, and Wuxi Taihu City (referring to province-level development zone system.
Liangxi District, a municipal district of Wuxi, Jiangsu, is located in the downtown of the city, has area of about 71.5 square kilometers and a population of about 778,755. The district is named after the west of the city Liangxi, the alternative name of Wuxi in old times.
In October, 2015, the State Council replied to repeal Chong'an District, Nanchang District and Beitang District of Wuxi, and took the administrative divisions of the 3 districts as that of Liangxi District. The Liangxi District People's Government stations on No. 688, Jiefang South Road, Chong’an Temple Residential Street. The district has 17 subordinate residential streets: Chong'an Temple Residential Street, Tongjiang Residential Street, Guangruilu Residential Street, Shangmadun Residential Street, Jianghai Residential Street, Guangyi Residential Street, Yinglongqiao Residential Street, Nanchan Temple Residential Street, Qingmingqiao Residential Street, Jinxing Residential Street, Jinkui Residential Street, Yangming Residential Street, Huangxiang Residential Street, Shanbei Residential Street, Beidajie Residential Street, Huishan District and Wuhe Residential Street (of which Beidajie Residential Street and Wuhe Residential Street would jointly work in 1 office). On February 20, 2016, the Wuxi Municipal Party Committee and the Wuxi Municipal People's Government held an establishment meeting of Liangxi District in Wuxi, indicating official establishment of the district. .
Xinwu District, a municipal district of Wuxi, Jiangsu, is located in southeast of the downtown, has area of 220.01 square kilometers and a permanent population of 364,621.
In October, 2015, the State Council replied to establish Xinwu District of Wuxi, put Hongshan Residential Street of Xishan District as well as Jiangxi Residential Street, Wangzhuang Residential Street, Shuofang Residential Street, Meicun Residential Street and Xin’an Residential Street of Binhu District in Wuxi under administration of Xinwu District, and took the administrative divisions of the 6 residential streets as that of Xinwu District. The Xinwu District People’s Government stations on No. 28, Hefeng Road, Xin'an Residential Street. Xinwu District and the Wuxi High and New Tech Industrial Development Zone would execute management system of unification of district and administration, and adopt operation mode of one set of group, two plates of administrative district and development zone. The district has 5 parks including the Wuxi National High and New Technology Development Zone, Wuxi Taihu International Science and Technology Park, Wuxi Airport Industrial Park, Wuxi Xingzhou Industrial Park and Wuxi Export Processing Zone as well as 6 residential streets including Hongshan Residential Street, Wangzhuang Residential Street, Jiangxi Residential Street, Shuofang Residential Street, Meicun Residential Street and Xin’an Residential Street under its command.
