Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province hosted a conference on urban internationalization in Singapore on May 5.
After thanking the Singaporean people for their support, Zhao Jianjun, mayor of Wuxi, outlined the city's economic and social development and reviewed the 30 years of cooperation between Wuxi and Singapore.
Zhao noted that the two places have maintained close exchanges and cooperation in science, trade, and culture over the past 30 years and he also expressed hope that they will enhance their industrial cooperation and expand cooperation in culture, education, and tourism.
Ho Nai Chuen, core council member of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that he hopes more Singaporean businessmen will learn about Wuxi and participate in the city's economic and social development through the conference.
SCCCI has helped hundreds of Singaporean companies enter China and expand their presence in the country over past years.
At the conference, cooperation agreements on 18 projects worth nearly $8 billion were inked between Wuxi and Singapore.
Wuxi has been cooperating economically with Singapore since the 1990s when the Wuxi-Singapore Industrial Park was established in the city.
As of the end of 2022, Singaporean businesses had invested $16.41 billion in 703 companies in Wuxi while as of February 2023 Wuxi companies had invested $1.06 billion in 61 projects in Singapore.
Over the following days, Mayor Zhao will also visit South Korea and Japan to seek trade and cultural exchanges.
