The He Zhenliang and the Olympic Memorial Museum in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, recently upgraded its exhibits, focusing on the second-floor display area.
The second-floor exhibition now includes a Wuxi Sports Champions Wall, highlighting the achievements of athletes and coaches with stories, photos, and videos. It also displays items like medals, fencing gear, and taekwondo equipment.
The exhibition area also features displays on smart sports, blending fashion and technology within the updated hall. Visitors can ride bicycles to explore Wuxi's famous cycling routes, challenge AI in chess and Go, attend champion classes to learn table tennis and badminton from sports stars, and take part in activities like standing long jump, high jump, and skipping.
A special exhibition showcasing Beijing's successful Olympic bid memorabilia has recently opened. It features over 100 items donated by He Zhenliang, including calligraphy from renowned artists and all the equipment he used during the Olympic torch relay.
He (1929-2015), born in Wuxi, was elected to the International Olympic Committee in 1981. In 1985, he joined the IOC executive board and served three consecutive 5-year terms (1985-1989, 1994-1998, 1999-2003). He became IOC vice-president in 1989, serving one term (1989-1993). His excellent language skills and personality significantly contributed to Beijing's successful bid for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
To commemorate his contributions to the Olympic cause, Wuxi established the He Zhenliang and the Olympic Memorial Museum in 2008, the first Olympic-themed exhibition hall in China.
