"China's Good Man" is both the title granted to the film's protagonist, Zhou Senshu, and the central theme the documentary seeks to explore. Brazilian director Patricia Pereira Monteiro, together with film producer Jiang Yafei from Qingdao, Shandong province, traveled to Wenlin—a small Jiangnan town whose name means "abundant with scholars"—to capture this story of virtue and cultural depth.
The film struggles to define the many facets of Zhou, who embodies a wide range of roles: collector of ancient coins and artifacts, mentor to the next generation, guide for troubled youth, cultural researcher, practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, and elementary school teacher.
The film's musical score, following the journey of a tricycle, serves as the lifelong background music of Zhou, representing his decades-long commitment to mentoring, collecting, caring, and heroic idealism.
