This summer, as Wuxi's ranking in the Jiangsu Football City League changes with each round, local residents' enthusiasm for sports is growing even stronger.
This vibrant energy is driven by the dedicated efforts of local authorities to promote sports development. They have incorporated sports-friendly, youth-friendly, and all-age-friendly ideas into the city's development plans. The emphasis is on improving the public service system for national fitness and broadening the variety of public fitness services.
Since 2021, Wuxi has converted over 250 unused plots into 500 public sports facilities. As of early this year, the city's per capita sports area reached 4.83 square meters, ranking high in the province.
In recent years, the city's sports authority has consistently established and renovated over 600 outdoor public fitness facilities annually. These include cage sports fields, basketball hoops, table tennis tables, fitness paths, and drinking fountains. This year, over 30 embedded football and basketball courts are scheduled to be built in green spaces. Additionally, State-owned sports venues remain accessible for free or at low cost.
To enhance fitness accessibility, the sports authority introduced the "Xi Yuedong (锡跃动)" mini-program in July, creating a comprehensive public service platform for fitness. It provides services such as venue reservations, sports updates, outdoor activities, and scientific fitness advice.
Creating a sports-friendly city and motivating more residents to participate in physical activities depend on hosting high-profile events. In 2025, Wuxi aims to organize 121 sports events at the municipal level or higher, including 19 international competitions and 64 national tournaments.
These events boost the city's reputation and attractiveness, with sports vitality adding to its allure. Wuxi's sports growth integrates technological innovation, humanistic care, and regional interaction, shaping new chapters in the city's development story.
