The energy conservation and environmental protection industrial cluster is one of Wuxi's advantageous ones. From January to September 2025, the city's new energy enterprises above designated size achieved an industrial output value of 180.51 billion yuan ($27.15 billion) and operating revenue of 148.65 billion yuan. The scale of energy-saving and environmental protection equipment manufacturing ranks among the top nationally, holding a 40 percent share of the national market in the water pollution treatment sector.
As of November 2025, Wuxi boasts two national-level innovation platforms: the National Quality Inspection and Testing Center for Solar Photovoltaic Products and the National Quality Inspection and Testing Center for High-end Energy Storage Products. It also has 37 provincial-level innovation platforms in the new energy sector. The city has nurtured a total of 49 national-level specialized and sophisticated "little giant" enterprises in new energy, building a frontier hub for original new energy technologies.
Wuxi plans to vigorously develop industrial chains related to environmental protection, including water pollution prevention and control, air pollution prevention and control, solid waste pollution prevention and control, and energy-saving equipment.
It will promote the formation of a diversified development pattern with industrial agglomeration in areas like Yixing, Xinwu, Jiangyin, and Xishan, and enhanced collaboration in areas like Huishan, Binhu, and the Wuxi Economic Development District. The goal is to build Wuxi into a globally competitive demonstration zone for the entire water treatment industrial chain, the most influential national base for intelligent manufacturing in energy conservation and environmental protection, and a national highland for technological innovation and R&D in energy conservation and environmental protection.
