As one of the four pillar industries in Wuxi, biomedicine has become an important engine for the city's industrial transformation and upgrading. As of the end of 2025, Wuxi is home to more than 2,400 biomedicine enterprises. It has attracted six Fortune Global 500 companies and 17 listed firms.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Wuxi saw 3 Class 1 innovative drugs approved for marketing, and 25 innovative medical devices admitted to the special or priority review and approval procedures.
The biomedical industry is capital-intensive, and sustained capital investment is a crucial foundation for continuous innovation. By June 2024, the city had established specialized funds exceeding 30 billion yuan ($4.21 billion).
